Betty J. Rieth, 93

PHOENIX, NY – Betty J. Rieth, 93, former Pennellville, NY, resident, passed away peacefully with a daughter by her side, at Rosewood Heights Nursing Home, Syracuse, on Monday February 6, 2012.

She was born in Syracuse to Ethel Mary Schilly and George White on September 7, 1918.

She was above all, a fine homemaker, with a great love for children.

Betty had nine of her own children with five of which were adopted.

Over several decades, she was a foster parent to more than 100 children.

Mrs. Rieth was a teacher’s aide for Phoenix Central Schools.

Later, Betty earned her LPN license and up until 1990, worked for the Onondaga County Health Department.

She was a member of the Pennellville United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Harold E. Rieth, in 1977; her son, Robert Rieth; granddaughters, Cindy (Brown) Hildereth and Michelle Seals; a grandson, David Brown; and long-time friend, James G. Brownell.

Surviving are her eight children, Bonnie Brown (Jack) of West Monroe, Ronald Rieth of Nashua, NH, John (Janet) Rieth of Pennellville, twins, Teri-Lynn Beach of Lysander and Lu-Ann Kleibacker of Fredericksburg, Va., Marcia Seals of Los Angeles, Calif., Michael (Carol) Rieth of Brewerton and Suzanne (Arthur)
Anthony of Baldwinsville; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Rieth of Goshen, Ky.; 30 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Morris of Worcester, Mass.; several nieces, nephews, cousins.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Allanson-
Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, NY.

Services will be on Thursday, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Diane Bradshaw officiating.

Burial will be in Pennellville Cemetery, Schroeppel.
