Charles L. Butler, 86, a resident of Parsons Rd., Town of Hannibal, passed away May 28, 2010 at Seneca Hill Manor.

Born in Ellisburg, NY, he was the son of the late Harlow and Ruth (Schumaker) Butler.

He was a Marine Veteran serving from 1941 to 1945. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the George Medal.

He was owner and founder of Butler Disposal from 1959.

Charles enjoyed golfing, traveling, camping and dancing.

He was County Commander for the American Legion #1145 in Scriba, a Commander for the VFW #9218 in Scriba, the 5th District State Quarter Master Assistance and a member of the Elks and Moose Club in Oswego.

Surviving is his wife, Kathy Hall-Butler; two daughters, Bonnie (Joe) Purdy of S. Carolina; Becky (Paul) Engle of S. Carolina; six sons, Charles (Melissa) Butler of Scriba; Tom Butler, Alan (Georgianna) Butler, Dale Butler, all of Oswego; Terry Butler of Hermon, NY; Todd (Chrissa) Butler of Oswego; a brother, Dick (Glenda) Butler of Reno; three sisters, Harriet Green of TX; Myrte Albert of New Hampshire; Marjorie Butler of Florida; two step-children, Michael (Tina) Hall and Lesley (Jeff) Wallace; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Bernice and granddaughter Amanda Langdon.

Funeral Services will be held 10am Wednesday at the Nelson Funeral Home.

Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8pm. Tuesday at the funeral home, 11 W. Albany St. Oswego.
