Dorothy E. Merritt, 76

OSWEGO, NY – Dorothy E. Merritt, 76, a resident of 131 W. First St., died Sunday May 2, 2010, at the home of her daughter.

Mrs. Merritt was born in Oswego, the daughter of the late Richard and Catherine (Cahill) White.

She was a life resident.

She was the wife of the late Maurice Merritt, who died in 1987.

Mrs. Merritt was self-employed beautician.

She was a member of the VFW Post #2320 and the American Legion Auxiliaries, and was a member of the Oswego Moose Club.

Mrs. Merritt was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Debbie Loftus of Oswego, Lu Ann Ahart of Oswego,  Brenda Merritt of Minnesota and Sue Merritt of Oswego; two sons, Paul Merritt of Fulton and David Merritt of Rochester; a brother, Raymond Earl Wilmott of Oswego; two sisters, Margaret Fitzgerald and Louise Vivlemore, both of Oswego; 13 grandchildren, Kris Fadden, Keri Thompson, Shelly Amormino, Jennifer Bivens, Becky Gibson, Erin Loftus, Kesha Loftus, Brian Merritt, Alecia Merritt, Erica Hall, Michael Merritt, Anthony Merritt and Karly Babcock; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Becky Thompson; a grandson, Richie Thompson; and three brothers, James White, Francis “Jumper” Cahill and Austin Eddie Wilmott.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
