Eileen M. Ranous

OSWEGO, NY – Eileen M. Ranous, a resident of the town of Oswego, passed away peacefully on Thursday May 7, 2015, at home.

A third generation native Oswegonian, she was born in Oswego where she lived most of her life.

She was the daughter of William and Anna (McMahon) McGrath.

Mrs. Ranous was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

She enjoyed playing bridge and participated in the game as often as she could.

She also enjoyed travel and her annual vacations with friends and family in Canada and Florida, the latter where she became a championship bocce player.

Mrs. Ranous was a lifetime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Oswego.

She married George C. Ranous on June 21, 1947, and was the mother of five children.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Ron) Hall, of Oswego; four sons, George (Paula) Ranous Jr. and Brian (Kathy) Ranous both of Oswego, James (Barbara) Ranous of Ballston Lake, NY, and Richard (Gail) Ranous of Ballston Spa, NY; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, Jack McGrath and George McGrath; and three sisters, Anamae Mitchell, Hazel Ebert and Helen Benzing, all of Oswego.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary’s Church.

Entombment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, All-Saints’ Mausoleum.

Calling hours will be held at the family home, 30 Jackim Road, Oswego, from 1 – 4 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Oswego.
