James Edward Rogers III

OSWEGO, NY – On Sunday September 23, 2012, James Edward Rogers III, known as “Jay,” went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Jay was born July 26, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio.

His father, James Edward Rogers Jr., predeceased him in 1995.

His mother, Angeline Rogers, is still living in Port Charlotte, Fla.

He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Esther L. Rogers; a son, Matthew S. Rogers (Angela) of South Bend, Indiana; and his grandchildren, Samuel and Sara Rogers; a daughter, Janeen R. Carioti (Frank) of New Haven, with his grandsons, Victor and Troy Carioti. Also he leaves his god-daughter and god-son, Thayer and Cynthia Parrish and their two girls, Cora and Trinity.

He leaves his brothers, Richard Rogers (Faith), Thomas Rogers (Deborah); and a sister, Beverly Thompson, all of Delaware; as well as a sister-in-law, Eva Madison of Oswego; and brothers-in-law, Benjamin, Eugene, and David Herbert, all of South Carolina, and Daniel Herbert of Colorado; along with several nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind his very good friend, Robert Kisluk and his wife, Vivian.

His favorite hobby was sailing, with fishing as a close second.

He enjoyed woodworking and built many beautiful pieces of furniture for family and friends.

He was an accomplished musician, playing many instruments in his lifetime.

He retired after 35 years in the nuclear industry, working at the James A. FitzPatrick plant for most of those years.

He was a member of the Elim Grace Christian Church.

Donations can be made in his memory to the Elim Grace Building Fund.

There will be a memorial service on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Elim Grace Christian Church, Oswego.

Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
