Joan Mahaney-Brighton Flack, 64

OSWEGO, NY – Joan Mahaney-Brighton Flack passed away peacefully on Saturday May 4, 2013, at age 64, surrounded by family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Claude B. Flack; father and mother, Lawrence and Gertrude Mahaney; sisters Barbara Gurney , Rose Johnson, Marie Gray and Jane Ruttan.

Joan is survived by her loving children, Mark, Angie Flack (J.D.) Brown and Jeffrey; her brothers, Larry (Barb) Mahaney, David (Sharon) Mahaney, Robert (Carol) Mahaney and Jack (Marie) Mahaney; sisters Catherine (Warren) Pritchard and Sallie (Ken) Roberts; sister-in-law, Sharon Flack (Bruce) Hall; brother-in-law, Larry (Vera Sue) Flack; grandchildren, Shelby Flack, Jack and Lucas Brown; and many other dear relatives and friends, especially Maureen Sullivan.

Joan went to St. Mary’s Catholic School and Catholic High in Oswego.

She worked at Oswego Hospital, where she met the love of her life.

In 1973, they moved to Brighton, NY.

Joan worked for the University of Rochester/Strong Hospital for more than 30 years.

She will be remembered by her smile, her laugh and her ability to make friends everywhere she went.

Her family was the center of her life.

Holiday time and birthdays were her favorite times, along with vacationing with her husband in Hawaii many times.

She will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will follow at Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.

  1. Dear Family, Joanie and I worked together back in the late 60’s at Oswego in Medical Records with Theresa Lagoe and Shirley Haynes–we had such a fun time!! We were all young and full of fun!!! My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Always remember the good times and pleasant memories–it sounds like you had alot of them
