OSWEGO, NY – Joanne M. Parker, 54, a resident of County Route 57, Scriba, passed away on Monday March 16, 2015, at Upstate Hospital, Syracuse.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Mary Elizabeth (Grosvent) Parker.

She was employed at Price Chopper for more than 30 years.

She was active in many animal rescues and co-founder of Harbor Hounds Greyhounds Rescue and Adoption.

She loved dogs and was a mentor to many dog adopters.

She was an instructor at the YMCA aqua program.

Surviving are her three sisters, Bettie Louise Segal of Clarence, NY, Linda Hannock and Barbara Snell, both of Oswego; her nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Segal, Stacey Palermo, Brent (Kristin) Hannock and Melanee Hannock; several nieces, nephew and cousins.

Calling hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal rescue of one’s choice.

  1. I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR THIS SAD NEWS ….AS I AM NOT FEELING THE BEST….I AM NOT SURE IF I WILL BE ABLE TO ATTEND CALLING HOURS OR SERVICE; BUT, MY THOUGHTS WILL BE WITH U. PRAYERS BEING SAID. LOVE TO ALL. ??

  2. We lost a great woman who has helped so many people and dogs. May your work continue has you cross the bridge and be reunite with all the greyhounds waiting for you.

  3. I have known Joanne since elementary school. She was always such a happy pleasant person and I don’t ever remember her not having a smile on her face. Her life has been taken way to young. May her family find peace in knowing how many people thought so highly of her and in the memories they hold close to their hearts. RIP Joanne now as an angel above!!

  5. Joanne touched the hearts of many and will be missed. I will cherish my memories of her always whenever I work with the hounds or think about them. If it wasn’t for her and her sister Linda I would not have my Casey who is the light of my life. Joanne, we will miss you but not forget you.
