OSWEGO, NY – Joseph (Joe) G. Cernaro passed away on Sunday December 27, 2015, at the Sawtelle House in Reading, Mass., surrounded by loving family.

He was 59 years old.

Born in Oswego, NY, he resided in Winthrop for the last 12 years.

Joe was the cherished son of the late Benedetto and Mary Ann (Pasiak) Cernaro, both of Oswego.

Joe was employed with United Airlines in both Syracuse and Boston for more than 27 years.

He will be greatly missed by those he worked with.

Joe was an avid fan of both football and baseball and played softball in Oswego for many years.

He enjoyed frequent walks with his dog, Sully, at Deer Island.

Joe was the devoted husband of 32 years to Yvonne (Pettie) Cernaro of Winthrop, Mass.; and loving father of daughters Lauren of Fredericksburg, Va., and Emily of Winthrop.

He was the dear brother of David (Kaye) of Helena, Mont., Kathy Coon of Oswego and Thomas (Eileen) of Oswego.

Joe also leaves behind many nieces and nephews including Rich (Alek), Rob and Krista Coon of Oswego, Jamie (Ashley) Cernaro of Port Charlotte, Fla., Jason Cernaro of Oswego, Michael (Katie) Cernaro of Billings, Mont., Tricia (Thomas) Carpenter of Oswego, Stephanie Johnson of Oswego, Alyson and Christopher O’Leary of Oswego, and Shannon Pasco of Boston, Mass.; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

  2. As a childhood friend of joeys (Cartys) I have some of the best memories of when we were growing up.i regret not staying in touch and getting to know his family,he will be missed by all!
