Joseph Ruta, 82, of Phoenix, NY, died peacefully at his home on Monday.

Born in Sicily, he later became a U.S. citizen. Joe was a machinist for Mengels-CCA, Fulton, for 35 years.

He enjoyed his family life with his six children, as well as fishing and gardening.

Pre-deceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Josephine Rose (Caltabiano) Ruta in 2006.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Theresa and Jeffrey Dean of Pennellville, Paul Ruta of NC, Rosina and Chuck Nicolella of Phoenix, Mary Jo and Robert Morgan of Albany, Anne and Ray Grabowski of Baldwinsville, Joseph Ruta of Phoenix; 13 grandchildren, Alex and Christopher Dean, Jeffrey and Eric Ruta, Stephen, Donald and Andrew Heagle, Christopher Nicolella, Adam and Max Morgan, Julianna, Katie, and Marcus Grabowski; several nieces, nephews, cousins.

Services are at 8:45 am Friday at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home and 9:30 am at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 469 Main St., Phoenix, NY 13135. Burial in Phoenix Rural Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday at the funeral home 431 Main St., Phoenix, NY 13135. Contributions: St. Stephen’s Catholic Church.

  1. My prayers and thoughts go out to all the Ruta Family. I have fond memories of going to a farm as a child and picking green beans with Mr. Ruta and when I think of Italian food I sure think of eating with the Ruta Family. Mrs. Ruta was my babysitter and Joey was my good friend! Peace and Blessings!
