Kenneth Charles Goodroe

OSWEGO – Kenneth Charles Goodroe, passed away Thursday July 5, 2012, at home with his family by his side, at the age of 67.

Ken was born and raised in the town of Scriba, NY.

He graduated from Oswego High School in 1962, served two years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Davis DD-937 where he was a 3rd class gunners mate.

After the military in 1965, Ken worked at Alcan Aluminum Corp. in Scriba, where he completed a NYS four-year Mechanical Millwright Machinist Apprenticeship, in 1974.

Ken switched jobs to a Mechanical Supervisor at the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant.

He retired after 25 years in September 2000.

Ken was a life member of the Oswego Elks #271, VFW # 9218 Scriba, 15 years as a member of SVFD.

He also spent 20 years as a special deputy with the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department.

Also, Ken was a member of the New Haven Leatherstocking Club. Ken was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his time at Fallbrook Hunting Camp; It was what he called “God’s country,” and why not!

Ken was predeceased by his parents, Ken and Aletha in 1990 and 1993; a brother, David in 1974; and in 1985 by a daughter, Cheryl Anne.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sharon; daughter, Cynthia Farella of Oswego; son, Robert Goodroe (Commander with the USN) of 17 years; daughter, Eva (Pete) White of Moorsville, NC; four grandchildren, Joey and Nick Farella of Oswego, Ryan Goodroe of Virginia Beach, Va. and Kennedy Cheryl White of Moorsville, NC.; one brother, Carl (Joan) Goodroe of Scriba; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in Peck’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
