PHOENIX, NY – Leo  C. Borte Jr., 92, former Phoenix, and Zephyrhills, Fla., resident, passed away on Monday May 2, 2016, in Syracuse, NY.

He was born on May 3, 1923, in Syracuse, and was the son of the late Helen (Ware) and Leo C. Borte Sr.

He was a proud veteran, serving in the US Coast Guard from 1943-1946.

Leo was bridge and highway construction inspector for the State of New York for many years.

Leo had been a member of the Phoenix Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and a Phoenix Memorial Post VFW 5540 member.

He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Kathleen
(Archambo) Borte, on April 12, 2012; and his son, Stephen C. Borte Sr., on January 16, 2013.

Surviving are his grandsons, Stephen C. Borte Jr. of LaFayette and Todd Stoutenger of Pennellville; his granddaughter, Lisa  M. Batt of Walkersville, Md.; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services only will be held on Saturday May 21, at 11 a.m. in the Phoenix Rural Cemetery, 126 Chestnut St., Phoenix.

The Rev. Philip Brockmyre will officiate.

Coast Guard and VFW Post 5540 honor squads will offer military rites at the conclusion of the service.
