Linda ‘Nana’ L. Sherman

OSWEGO, NY – Linda “Nana” L. Sherman, a resident of Volney, passed away Saturday September 12, 2015, at Upstate Hospital, Syracuse.

Born in Fulton, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and Emma (Haynes) DeCare.

She was a teacher for 34 years, retiring from the Fulton School District.

She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and was active in the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

She was a ham radio operator and an active member of the N.R.A.

Linda loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are her two daughters, Betsy Sherman-Saunders of Oswego and Mindy (Diego) Alfarache of Austin, Texas; a son, Richard (Anne) Sherman of Oswego; two brothers, Robert (Annette) DeCare of Fulton and James (Kris) DeCare of Oswego; two sisters, Barbara (William) Manwaring and Karen (Joe) Chambers, both of Oswego; nine grandchildren, Rodney Stoutenger, Kyle Stoutenger, Whitney Gayne, Megan Gayne, Kaitlyn Gayne, Jacob Gayne, Shane Saunders, Jenna Saunders and Gabriella Alfarache; and a close friend, Sam Bradford.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Sherman (2011); a brother, Raymond DeCare; and sister-in-law, Grace DeCare.

Calling hours will be held 3-7 p.m. Thursday at the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, at the church, 2819 County Route 45, Fulton.

Donations can be made to the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.
