Madelyn Shughrou Colley, 91

OSWEGO, NY – Madelyn Shughrou Colley, 91, of Pulaski, passed away on Sunday November 18, 2012, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Della Shughrou.

A resident of Oswego, NY, and was an active member of St. John’s and then St. Mary’s Church, Oswego.

She resided in Grand Island, NY, before moving to Oswego in 1975.

She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School, DuBois, Pa., class of 1938.

She trained in laboratory and X-ray at Dubois Hospital and worked in health care for more than 40 years.

She was also a part-time employee of St. Luke Health Services.

She was a World War II veteran, who served with the 13th WAC Hospital Co. in Butler, Pa.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Colley, in 1984; and a son, Thomas Jr., in 2005.

Five sisters, Eileen, Janice, Elizabeth, Helen Marie and Kathryn; and brother, Jack also predeceased her.

Surviving are three daughters, Toni Colley of Laguna Hills, Calif., Casey (Robert) Ebert of Mannsville, NY, and Mary (Daniel) Caughey of Pulaski; a son, William (Wendy) Colley of Colchester, Vt.; four grandchildren, Thomas III, Summer, Adrianne and Dale; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Nelson Funeral Home.

  1. Casey and Bob (and Family): So sorry to read of your loss. No matter the age, it’s hard to lose a parent. Still, wow, 91 years and all that rich of a life (A WAC in WWII…all that she’s seen in those 91 years, and how much the world has changed).
