Mary A. Gosek, 94

OSWEGO, NY – Mary A. Gosek, 94, of Oswego, died Thursday June 9, 2016, at St. Luke Health Services.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Katherine (Stobnicka) Shambo.

Throughout her life, Mary was devoted to her family, her friends and her church.

She served as St. Stephen’s Church secretary, CCD teacher and was a member of both the Rosary Society and the Church Choir for more than 40 years.

She also served as president of the Oswego Senior Citizens and as secretary of the Oswego Minor Hockey Association.

Mary (and her late husband, Leo) loved dances and celebrations at the Polish Club, Elks Club, church bazaars and picnics of every sort, camping and holiday family gatherings.

She was a proud member of the “Gosek Racing Team” and an avid Oswego State hockey fan.

Surviving are her children, Stanley (Elizabeth) Gosek of Oswego, Susanne (Thomas) Jones of Liverpool, Joseph (Vicki Rabozzi) Gosek of Oswego and Edward (Mary) Gosek of Oswego; a sister, Sophie Krawczyk of Heathrow, Fla.; grandchildren, Matthew (Jen Pepper) Jones, Stephen Gosek, Kenneth (Lyndsie) Jones, Megan Gosek, Katherine (Bill Price) Jones, Jeremy Gosek, Sarah Gosek, Piper Gosek and Remi Gosek; two great-grandchildren, Arianna Jones and Leo Jones; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Stanley Gosek; and her siblings, Joseph Shambo, John Shambo, Mitchell Shambo, Walter “Huck” Shambo, Theodore Shambo, Helen Doviak and Bernice Derousie.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June13, at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church.

Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, June 12, from 1 -5 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St. Oswego.
