At age 18, she graduated from Adelphi College, with honors in mathematics.

She married the late Lester Hale in 1937 and spent 53 happy years as wife and mother.

After Lester’s retirement, they became snowbirds, spending summers in Brick, NJ, and winters in Clearwater, Fla.

Always having an independent spirit, May continued to live a full life, even after Lester’s death in 1990.

She remained an avid golfer until the age of 90.

In 2006, she moved to Upstate New York to be closer to her daughters.

She had four wonderful years at Springside, embracing life to its fullest – from bridge to creative writing to her daily walks around the “campus” – her smile and love of life infecting all around her.

The family would like to thank her friends and the staff at Springside for making her life there so happy.

They would also like to thank the staff at the Manor and the nurses at Oswego Hospital as well as Dr. Carmen Dator and Dr. J. Thotambilu for their compassionate care during her recent illness.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Hale of Hannibal, Susan Lemon of Sterling and Jeanne Brown of Centerport, NY; and three grandchildren, Christopher Brown, Alexis Lemon and John Lemon.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.

Calling hours will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service, at the funeral home, 112 E. Second St.
