Michael Thomas Pinko, 87, of Safety Harbor, Florida, and formerly of Fulton, NY, passed away on Sunday July 21, 2013, at Westchester Gardens in Clearwater, Florida.
Mike was born in Nanticoke, Pa., on March 4, 1926, to Michael and Catherine (Kolczynski) Pinko.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a military policeman stationed in Fort Lee, Va.
He was employed by Niagara Mohawk for 36 years and retired in 1986 as a supervisor in the Gas Department servicing the Oswego County area.
He was past president of the Fulton Polish Home, member of the Polish Home Sportsman Club, life member of the P.L.A.V. Henry Proppe Post 19, St. Michael’s Club, Veterans’ Council and former member of St. Michael’s Church in Fulton.
Mike enjoyed his family, polka dancing, casinos, fishing, traveling and the Tampa Bay Rays.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sophie (Frank) Pinko; daughters, Sandra (Bruce Gagne) Ford and Sharon (John) McFadden; grandchildren, Michael Ford and Lindsay (Nick) Demling; great-grandchildren, Brandon Demling, Caitlin Whitney and Tanner Demling; brother, Sylvester Pinko; sisters, Dorothy Braun and Geraldine Szmurlo; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike enjoyed his friends at the Amber Glades Retirement Community in Safety Harbor and the good times they shared.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held at Amber Glades at a later date as well as burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fulton.
