PHOENIX, NY – Raymond Richard Ackerman, 98, former Canastota resident, passed away on Friday April 10, 2015, at the Manlius Home for Adults in the village of Manlius, NY.
He was born in Whitelaw, town of Lenox, NY, to his late parents, Dahlia (Wuillez) and Edward Ackerman, on March 21, 1917.
He was an self-employed carpenter with many talents.
Ray was a member of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church, Card Club, Oneida Lake Community Club and was an avid fisherman.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, the former Valarie Hardy, in 2003; his brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his children, Raymond (Sonia).Ackerman, James and Lilly Ackerman, Richard and Cynthia Ackerman, Joan Effland, and Jerri and Marc Hembach; 16 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on April 18 at 11 a.m. in Whitelaw Presbyterian Church, Whitelaw, town of Lenox, Madison County.
Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family in Whitelaw Cemetery, Whitelaw.
Arrangements are in care of the Allanson-Glanville-Tappen Funeral Home.
