Rita J. Johnson, 88

OSWEGO, NY – Rita J. Johnson, 88 and a former resident of 144 W. Mohawk St. in Oswego, passed away Tuesday morning April 29, 2014, at St. Luke Health Services, Inc.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Fulton and was the daughter of the late Angelo and Amelia Bellardini Ponzi.

She was the wife of the late Howard “Jake” Johnson.

She had formerly been employed at Taggart Manufacturing and the Last Long Knitting Mill.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by one son, Dennis (Alesia) Johnson; one brother, Anthony “Butch” Ponzi; one sister, Delores (Don) Fitzgerald all of Oswego; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four sisters, Barbara Ponzi, Mary Flett, Clara DeStevens and Louise Delnero; and four brothers, Joseph Ponzi, Leonard Ponzi, Floyd Ponzi and Francis Ponzi.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, with Pastor Bruce V. Schrader officiating.

Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

  1. I truly loved Rita and this just broke my heart to pieces. She was the 1st resident I met when I began my job at St. Luke and she had my heart from that day forward. RIP Ms. Johnson ???
