Robert Eugene Pierce, 59

OSWEGO, NY – Robert Eugene Pierce, 59, died peacefully at his home on Monday August 24, 2015, after a short illness.

Robert was the son of Jennings E. and Virginia (Mittan) Pierce and was named after his uncle, Robert Eugene Mittan, who died at age 18 in a gun accident while serving with the Police Department in Chadron, Nebraska.

Bob was employed by the Oswego City School District as a substitute school bus driver and had driven for Golden Sun Bus service for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Alton) Pierce; and his sisters, Susan (Ted) Nalle of Oswego and Elissa (Mark) Cupelo of Johnson City, NY; a brother, Lawrence (Nancy) Pierce of Charlottesville, Va.; two stepsons, Shane Knopp and David Knopp; and several nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.

Bob loved camping, drum corps, parades and animals especially cats.

In his youth, he played the drums for many years in the Black Knights and was an instructor with the Little Pages Jr. Drum Corps.

He was his father’s best “bud.”

He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Calling hours will be held 10 – 11 a.m. Thursday, with a service to follow, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.

Pastor Dick Yost and Pastor Anne Wichelns will be officiating.
