Robert M. Goodwin, 89

OSWEGO, NY – Robert M. Goodwin, 89, a resident of Goodwin Drive in the town of Scriba, passed away Wednesday morning December 16, 2015, at St. Luke Health Services.

Mr. Goodwin was born in Plattsburgh, NY, the son of the late Frank and Gladys (Lawliss) Goodwin.

He had lived in the Oswego area for more than 40 years.

He was a graduate of Plattsburgh High School, and also took many specialized courses during his military service.

Mr. Goodwin served his country proudly and was a veteran of both the US Army, and the US Air Force.

He was a former commander of the American Legion Post #912 in Rouses Point, NY, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed, for many years, as an electrician with the IBEW Local #781.

He worked on many projects throughout the years.

Mr. Goodwin was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in the town of Scriba and was a member of the church choir.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary (Laramie) Goodwin of Scriba; a daughter, Mary (Eric) Lamoray of Florida; six sons, Alan “Mickey” (Laurie) Goodwin of Hannibal, William (Joanne) Goodwin of Florida, Paul “Danny” Goodwin of Louisiana, Joel Goodwin of Scriba, Fred (Carlene) Goodwin of Fulton and David (Christine) Goodwin of Red Creek; 18 grandchildren, DJ, Shannon, Jessica, Michael, Will, Christa, Tanya, Danny, Thomas, Joe, Chelsea, Robert, James, Amber, Jennifer, Jason, Morgan and Matthew; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sons, Laramie Goodwin and John Goodwin; and three siblings, Frank Goodwin, Marion Collins and Thomas Thornton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Scriba.

Burial will be in Parish Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

  1. Correction: Robert Goodwin had 19 grandchildren and four more great grandchildren.

    Even though there was an international border preventing his eldest grandchild from having a relationship with him, Yolanda Goodwin from British Columbia, Canada, and her children are all mourning his loss as well. My wife was able to see her grandfather one last time during a far too short visit two and a half years ago. He is missed by us all.
