OSWEGO, NY – Virginia “Jinny” Leonard, 92, a former resident of 150 E. First St. in Oswego, passed away Wednesday October 17, 2012, at St. Luke Health Services, Inc.
She was born in Oswego and was the daughter of the late Harry and Julia Kelly Ross.
Mrs. Leonard was the widow of Edward F. “Benny” Leonard who died in 1976.
Mrs. Leonard was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and was formerly employed as a sales associate at JC Penny.
She was previously employed at Stone’s Candy.
She was a long time volunteer with the Oswego Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Ross (Linda Purcell) Leonard of Hickory Creek, Texas, and Edward (Charlotte) Leonard of Canton, Michigan; one daughter, Jean Barber of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Leonard of Ormond Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Ross Leonard Jr., Tracy Anne O’Dwyer, William Barber, Edward Barber, Kelly Castleberry, Erica Bautista and Stephen Barber; 12 great-grandchildren, Brandon Oswalt, Sean Patrick Leonard, Emily Leonard, Andrew Barber, Matthew Barber, Brian Barber, Caitlen Read, Justin Bautista, Sean Castleberry, Lindsay Castleberry, Acelen Barber and Carly Bautista; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Leonard was predeceased by a grandson, Aaron Michael Leonard; and two sisters, Veronica White and Louise Doersam.
Funeral services will be Monday 8:30 a.m. from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jean and Family, I am very sorry to see your mom’s obituary in the paper. It has been a very long time since I’ve even thought about your family. It is such a sad time when we loose a family member, especially a mother. You have my deepest sympathy and my prayers. Hope everyone else is in good health and doing fine. Jean, it looks like you are a great gramma. I am too, three times. Life is wonderful. Take care.
