Donald ‘Fitz’ French, 59

FULTON, NY – Donald “Fitz” French, 59, of Granby, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday August 21, 2014.

He was born to Louis H. French of Pulaski and the late Shirley Frances (Mason) and Alphonso Viscome.

Fitz was born in Oswego and he had been a resident of Granby for most of his life.

He retired in 2010 from the Oswego Boilermakers Local 175 after 25 years of service.

In his youth, he was an altar server to the area Catholic churches.

In his later years, his passion was the outdoors.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper.

He was also interested in the conservation of the wild.

Fitz was a longtime member of the Mad River Club and the Trappers Association.

In the past, he enjoyed being active with dirt bike racing, snowmobiling and 4-wheeling.

He is survived by his five siblings: Katherine (Gene) Stone, Robert (Debra) French, Herbert French, Julie (Bruce) Knapp and David (Gail) Viscome all of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Sugar Funeral Home, 224 W. Second St. S., Fulton, with Deacon Philip Kehoe officiating.

Burial will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.
