Joseph P. Scanlon, 63

OSWEGO, NY – Joseph P. Scanlon, 63, of Oswego, died Tuesday May 29, 2018, at his home after a sudden attack of illness.

He was born in Oswego, the son of the late Joseph and Barbara (Lynch) Scanlon.

Joe was employed with SUNY Oswego in the facilities maintenance of operations.

Joe was an avid race fan, golfer, and Oswego State Men’s Ice Hockey fan.

He golfed in the Blum Monday night golf league and Bud Boys Thursday night league.

He was a former member of the Moose Lodge.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Patricia (Carney) Scanlon of Oswego; their beloved children, Sarah (Mike) Zalewski of Oswego and Megan (Cody) Crouse of Oswego; and loving grandsons, Liam and Declan Zalewski.

Joe is also survived by his siblings, Beth Scanlon of Oswego, Jay (Kathy) Scanlon of Oswego, Shawn (Theresa) Scanlon of Oswego, Paul (Beth) Scanlon of Florida, Katrina (Gary) Ludwigsen of Oswego, Alice (Tom) Benjamin of Oswego and Patricia Sweeney of Oswego; brother-in-law, Dan Poprawski; mother-in-law, Anne Carney; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Poprawski, in 2014; and brothers: Lawrence Scanlon and Joe’s twin brother, James Lawrence Scanlon.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph’s Church, Oswego, with Deacon Nick Alvaro officiating.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego.

Calling hours will be conducted Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. in the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego, NY. missing or outdated ad config

  1. We were saddened to read of Joe’s passing. We remember him as always wearing that big smile! Jim always enjoyed coaching the little guys with Joe. Our sympathies to all of your family.
