Robert J. Anthony, 83

OSWEGO, NY – Robert J. Anthony, 83, of New Haven, NY, passed away peacefully Thursday morning April 16, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Oswego, to William and Elizabeth (Blaise) Anthony.

Mr. Anthony remained a lifelong resident of Oswego.

He was a 1948 graduate of Oswego High School.

Mr. Anthony was a United States veteran having served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954.

He was past employed with Marathon, Oswego, the Hammermill, Oswego, and later retired in 1999 as an engineer with International Paper, Oswego, after 47 years of service.

Mr. Anthony enjoyed bowling, painting and drawing.

He was also an avid reader.

Mr. Anthony is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Anthony of New Haven; four children: Denise (Richard) Baldwin of Nevada, Barbara (Bob) Bateman, Lisa (John) Johnston and Jamie (Daniel) Buske all of Oswego; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Margaret Beach, William Anthony and Charles Anthony.

Funeral services and burial will be held privately.

Calling hours will be conducted Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego.

  1. Barb and Bob: Sorry to hear about your loss of your dad, Barb. No matter how old they are (and 83 ain’t chump change!), it’s still too ‘soon’ for those who love them. Hope you have a lifetime of memories to hold near!

    My heart-felt sympathy goes out to you all. Bob was such a gentle, funny man and always made me laugh. Hold the memories of him close in your heart, and he’ll never be far away.
