Helene Simon Pfahl or “Deedo” to her friends and family, of Fulton, passed away on Sunday, August 23rd having been in a coma since August 10, 2009.

Born in Ulmet Germany on September 24, 1919, she was the daughter of Rudolf and Matilda Simon. Helene had resided in Fulton since 1943. She was very active in supporting the local community, senior groups and State Street United Methodist Church. Helene enjoyed being active, participating in early Red Cross programs; as a Boy and Girl Scout Leader; as a member of the Fulton, Granby, Phoenix and Volney Senior Citizens as well as taking part in many Oswego County senior activities. She was also a member of the Fulton Historical Society and the Fulton Garden Club. Helene loved to travel and enjoyed organizing many senior citizen trips. Helene always showed a creative flair and a loving heart and was appreciated and loved by all.

Helene was predeceased by her husband, Otto W. Pfahl, Sr., who died in 2000. As the last of her family’s generation she is survived by her daughters, Martha and Charlotte; her son, Otto, Jr.; nine grandchildren, Kelly, Hilda, Todd, Erik, Ritchie, Jann, Steven, John and Amber; ten great-grandchildren, Alexis, Natalie, Joshua, Kimberlee, Chelsea, Jonathan, Jordan, Michaelene, Benjamin and Allison; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 28th at State Street United Methodist Church, 357 State Street, Fulton. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helene’s memory may be made to State Street United Methodist Church, 357 State Street, Fulton, 13069.

  2. Helene was a dear sweet lady & was one of our favorite Sunday School teachers I learned alot about being a christian from her and I will miss her. my sympathies to all her family.

  4. We are very sorry to hear that Heleen has past away. She was such a lovely woman, we had wonderful time with her and Otto senior while in America. It is a great loss for you all. I know how you feel since my mother died only 2 years ago, I miss her still every day. Helen used to call my mother “popsie” because she was so small. Our thoughts are with you , God Bless her memory,
