James E. Gunther Sr., 64, 07/26/2009

OSWEGO, NY – James E. Gunther Sr., 64, a resident of 212 Duer St., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday July 26, 2009, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of Catherine Mahaney Deming and the late Richard J. Deming.

He was a graduate of Oswego High School.

Mr. Gunther was a veteran and served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army.

He was employed with the Alcan Corporation for more than 31 years retiring in 2002.

Mr. Gunther was an avid shopper and was a member of Oswego Elks Lodge #271.

He was always ready to help family and friends, but his greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving besides his mother is his of 40 years, the former Gloria Smith; two sons, Peter “Buddy” (Michlene) Losurdo and James (Sondra Nelson) Gunther Jr.; three daughters, Lysa (Richard) Chetney, Gloria “G.G.” (David Meltzer) and Catherine “Carrie” (David Curry Jr.) all of Oswego; two brothers, George (Elaine) Gunther of Florida and Jay (Catherrine) Gunther of Oswego; six grandchildren, Megan Lamond, Richard Chetney Jr., Anthony Losurdo, Erica Chetney, Joshua Losurdo and David James Curry; a great-grandchild, Cristian Chetney; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, New-Noo.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Lois Terminella and Amy Clavelli; and a brother, John Gunther Sr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
