James R. Fultz, 81, 08/18/2009

OSWEGO, NY – James R. Fultz, 81, a resident of 120 Nine Mile Point Road, Oswego, died on Tuesday morning Aug. 18, 2009, after a long illness.

Born in Oswego, he was a son of the late John R. and Mabel (Brady) Fultz.

He attended Oswego schools and was an active member of St. Paul’s Church.

He was a member of Boilermakers Local #175 for more than 35 years, working on many area construction projects before retiring in 1990.

Mr. Fultz was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Mediterranean and Africa.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge #271.

He enjoyed golf, daily swims at the Oswego YMCA and spending time with his large family.

Surviving are his daughter, Mary Fultz of Oswego; three sons, William of New York City, Michael and Timothy (Debra) Fultz both of Oswego; three grandchildren, Adam, Alec and Aislinn Fultz; two brothers, Paul (Olive) Fultz and John R. (Bobbie) Fultz both of Oswego; several nieces and nephews among whom is Jean Fultz of Theresa who cared for Jim and his wife many times over the years.

He is also survived by his long-time companion, Claire Strong.

Jim was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Jean Mahar, in 2003; three brothers, Joseph, Francis and Thomas Fultz Sr.; and three sisters, Genevieve Hough, Cecil VanderLinden and Mary Schaffer.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
