Kenneth Arthur Sellars, 86

Kenneth Arthur Sellars, 86, of Fulton, NY, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017, at his daughter’s home in Red Wing, Minnesota, with his wife and family by his side.

He was born September 7, 1931, to Maitland and Anna (Bristol) Sellars in Central Square, NY, the fifth of seven children.

The family later moved to Syracuse where Ken graduated high school before enlisting in the U.S. Army.

He served as a finance officer in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1954.

He then returned to Syracuse where he attended Syracuse University, School of Business, graduating with a degree in accounting.

While working at his first job out of college he met the daughter of a coworker, Janet Sant.

The couple was married on August 8, 1959, at State Street United Methodist Church.

Together they made their home in Fulton where they raised one daughter, Nancy.

After 43 years in Fulton, Ken and Janet moved to Red Wing, Minnesota, to live with their daughter.

Ken worked for Hammermill Paper, later named International Paper, as the company controller for 25 years before retiring in 1998.

He then worked during tax season with H&R Block for another 17 years.

He was active in the community as a member as past president of the Fulton Lion’s Club.

He was involved in the Duck Derby and the annual Memorial Day Salute.

He was a member of the American Legion post #915 in Central Square and the State Street United Methodist Church.

Ken loved antique cars, especially his 1976 Delta 88.

He enjoyed working in the yard and watching the wildlife.

Most of all, he loved his family and he adored his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet; daughter, Nancy (Frank) Sienczak of Red Wing, Minn.; three grandchildren, Adam of Manhattan, Kans., Alexis and Anna of Red Wing, Minn.; sisters, Ethel Cooke and Carol (Jack) Magill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Charlie, Ed, Bill and Paul.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to State Street United Methodist Church, 357 State St. Fulton, NY 13069.

  1. I am very sorry to hear of Ken’s passing. I know the last couple of years were difficult for him. I was proud to work side by side with him at many Lions Club events. My deepest condolences to Janet and his family. He will be missed.
