Lee R. Mitchell, 94

Lee Mitchell, 94, passed away on Saturday February 10, 2018, with his wife of 70 years, Mary, by his side.

He was a twin and the youngest of eight children born to William and Edna (Hopkins) Mitchell, of Fulton, NY, on July 9, 1923.

Lee and Mary relocated to Springfield, Missouri, in 1985 to be with their daughter and grandchildren.

Lee was a World War II veteran of the US Army, having served as a medic in the 88th Division, 33rd General Hospital at the 103rd station, receiving battle stars for the Rome-Arno and North Appenines campaigns, and a Combat Medical Badge.

Following his service, Lee worked at GE, in Syracuse, NY, for 23 years.

He was known for his singing abilities, his faith in Jesus and his love for family.

Lee is survived by his wife, Mary; three children: Stephen of New City, NY (Penny), Alainie of Springfield, Mo. (Denny Stevens) and Leeland of Fulton, NY (Carolyn Beckwith); four grandchildren: Kelly, Keely, Jana, and Liam; and three great-grand-children: Brynn, Edith, and Miles.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; and eldest son, Jonathan.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday, February 16, at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Springfield, Mo.

Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 17.

Burial will follow at Patterson Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Assemblies of God Missions (#2570539).

  1. RIP Brother Lee. You will be surely missed. We sure had alot of good times together years ago while working at Howards Sunoco. ???
