Marguerite M. Ellingwood, 73, of Sterling, died Monday at home.

Born in Oswego, she was a 51 year resident of Sterling. Marguerite was a member of Southwest Oswego United Methodist Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Oswego. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, sewing and volunteering at Hannibal’s Fairley Elementary School, but most of all she enjoyed being a grandmother.

Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Gordon R. Ellingwood, who died in 1990; sons, Harold E. Ellingwood, who died in 2000 and John H. Ellingwood, who died in 2005.

Surviving: two daughters, Lisa M. Ellingwood of Sterling and Mary A. Olsen of Hope Mills, NC; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Doris Hass, Jack Conner, Shirley Brown, Helen Zukowski and Al Conner; several nieces and nephews.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Foster Funeral Home, Hannibal. Spring burial will be at Springbrook Cemetery, Sterling. Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Finger Lakes A.S.P.C.A., 41 York Street, Auburn, 13021.

  1. Mrs. Ellingwood was a wonderful person and I always enjoyed seeing her and talking with her at Fairly School. She was a grandmother to many of our students and she will be missed. Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
