Sally Ann Stoutenger

Sally Stoutenger

FULTON – September 16, 1938 – May 5, 2025, Sally Ann Stoutenger, 86, of Fulton, NY, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, at St. Luke’s Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving husband of 70 years, Jack Stoutenger and daughter Candice Waldron. After a courageous battle with multiple health problems she shared with us her deep acceptance and understanding that her time had come. With grace, she expressed her desire to reunite with her family that had passed before her.

Born on September 16, 1938, in Fulton, NY, to Clifford “Tip” Holmes and Nora Holmes, Sally was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was a kind and strong woman whose love and generosity touched the lives of everyone she met.

Sally was predeceased by her parents Clifford and Nora Holmes, as well as siblings Ruth, Jane, Robert, and Harry. She shared a particularly strong bond with her sister Jane (Janey), and even as she neared the end of her life, Sally found comfort in the thought of being reunited with Jane. She is survived by her siblings Judy and Gerald.

Sally is also survived by her beloved husband, Jack, and her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. She took great pride in every person in our family and she made that evident in the admiration and bond she shared with each of us. Her presence will be forever cherished and appreciated.

Sally dedicated much of her life to being a homemaker and raising her five children: Sally (Scott) Collar , Candice Waldron, Jacklenee McMurray, Jack Jr (Kelly) Stoutenger , and Judith Clark. She was the proud matriarch of a large family, which includes 15 grandchildren: Scott, Lisa, Alan, Matthew, Clinton, Shaunna, Ronald, Eric, Johnathan, Michael, Christopher, Jeremy, Joeseph, Steven, and Keith, as well as 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom were the light of her life.

In her earlier years, Sally worked at a few local businesses as well as Volney Elementary School but her true passion was always centered on her family. She was the heart and soul of the Stoutenger home, where her love, guidance, and care provided a strong foundation for all who were fortunate enough to know her. When raising her family her love was boundless and stretched beyond blood including the Wilcox and Fredette families whom she held close to her heart.

In her later years, Sally and her husband Jack shared a love for bird watching and spent many peaceful years together enjoying the beauty of nature. They also took great joy in cleaning up the roadsides, helping to keep their community clean. Sally and Jack were known for their social nature and love of meeting new people. They spent many days attending auctions, swap meets, and running booths at local markets and events. It was through these adventures that they formed lasting friendships, and they always welcomed anyone they met into their home for coffee and conversation. Sally’s warmth and hospitality knew no bounds, and her home was always filled with visitors, whether family, friends, or those they’d just met.

A woman of many talents, Sally also had a deep love for crafting. She was especially skilled at crocheting, sewing, and painting, and she often donated her handmade creations to others and charity events. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and hosting gatherings, where her warmth and hospitality made everyone feel welcome. Sally had a special fondness for bingo and loved watching baseball, especially the Yankees and the Mets.

A graveside service will be held for close family and friends at the Phoenix Rural Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. this Friday. Following the service, a gathering will be held at the Stoutenger family home to celebrate Sally’s life.

Arrangements are being provided by Falardeau Funeral Home.
