Recently I was more or less asked that question after the most recent Common Council meeting!
Several attendees of the Common Council meeting asked me if I had lost my voice and wondered why I hadn’t spoke at the meeting!
The meeting was a meeting that had on the agenda a contract for the Fire Marshall, a position reborn by Mayor Rice and the Common Council.
The agenda item regarding the contract was pulled from the agenda.
I had signed up to speak but passed on the option to speak when the item was pulled.
I didn’t speak at the end of the meeting on open comment items.
At a meeting in September the 23rd, five public hearings had been held and the only people that spoke were those that had a dog in the fight. No one from the public brought any concerns.
One of those public hearings was related to the “Tax levy”! The Common council was going to vote on overriding the “Tax Levy”. Now this is usually a common practice that is not necessary because it is not needed. However, what it does is give the Mayor and the Council free reign to raise your taxes as high as they want. No one came to speak; therefore, the thought is no one cares how high their tax will go.
So, city of Fulton taxpayers, when your taxes go up thank yourself and your Common Council for that increase.
