Climate scientist, Professor Kevin Anderson, said, “We are headed for 3°C-4°C of warming across this century, an absolute climate catastrophe for all species, including our own.”
Professor Anderson continued, “Across this century we may see one or two meters (3-6 feet) sea level rise, which will be catastrophic for all coastal cities worldwide.”
The Financial Times explained, “a one-metre rise in sea level… would leave between 77mn and 132mn more coastal inhabitants living below sea level than previously predicted.”
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) confirmed in their report ‘State of the Global Climate 2025’ that sea-level rise reached a record high in 2024. Sea-levels stayed at that record high in 2025. The WMO attributed the record rise of sea-levels to a record rise of ocean heat. Both records were set by an increase in “fossil CO2 emissions.” In 2024, CO2 emissions “reached its highest level in the last 2 million years.” CO2 emissions “continued to increase in 2025.”
The Guardian reported, “Just 32 fossil fuel companies were responsible for half the global carbon dioxide emissions driving the climate crisis in 2024.”
In other words, fossil fuel companies are responsible for increasing CO2 in the air— the largest driver of global warming. As CO2 emissions increase the planet heats. The WMO documented that “the past eleven years, 2015–2025, were the eleven warmest years on record.”
Yale Climate Connections wrote, “March 2026 was the warmest March on record for the continental United States in 132 years.” It was “one of the most astonishing extreme heat events of the century.”
As the planet heats the oceans heat and sea-levels rise. The consequences of corporate greed are now measured in millennia. The WMO wrote, “Warming of the oceans will continue for centuries,” and “sea level will continue to rise.” Earth will experience “irreversible” ocean warming for 1,000 years because we prioritized corporate profits over humanity.
To add insult to injury, the Wall Street Journal reported, “ExxonMobil issued its first public statement that burning fossil fuels contributes to climate change in 2006.” In fact, “Exxon’s climate modelers had predicted warming temperatures with precision since the 1970s.”
Yet, in secret, “Exxon’s board directors and other top executives, sought to cast doubt on the severity of climate change’s impacts.” The Center for Climate Integrity wrote, “Exxon has known and lied about climate change for decades,” to “protect company profits at all costs.”
Huge corporations continue to protect profits at all costs even as global warming gets worse. ScienceDaily reported, “A glacier on Antarctica’s Eastern Peninsula underwent the most rapid retreat seen in modern times. In only two months, nearly half of Hektoria Glacier broke apart and disappeared.”
Record glacier retreat on a small glacier portends a much greater calamity in the near future. “If a much larger glacier were to retreat this quickly, the consequences for global sea level rise could be severe.” Or catastrophe “for all coastal cities worldwide.”
Taxpayers subsidize the fossil fuel companies driving our planet towards climate catastrophe.
