Three-Two-One-Zero,
No that is not the count down to the start of a race.
This is the count down of our swimming places for the kids in the City of Fulton.
The Baby Boomers of the City of Fulton can remember all of them.
As a kid that lived in the City of Fulton during the 60s I can remember three swimming places.
1-Sharps Pond (Rowlee Beach) 1-Stevenson Beach (Lake) 1-Pool at War Memorial (West-Side Pool). That made three places to swim.
Some time in the 70s the East-Side Pool was built for the kids on the East-Side, that still gave us three places to swim.
Now the City leaders were thinking into the future when the built both pools. They had the knowledge that it would be safer and healthier for the children of the future.
With two pools, the lake and Sharps Pond were still able to be used for fishing and ice skating.
The pond had many fishing contests through the years, giving the kids activities that were also learning activities. The lake was used for boat races, fishing.
With the building of the East-Side pool the swimming at the pond was stopped. Leaving still three swimming places(West-Side, East-Side Pools, and the lake).
Well pretty soon the walls came crashing down.
First up was taking the life guards out of the lake, meaning we had two swimming places.
Then with the West-Side pool needing repairs the city had more important issues than giving the children a place to swim. So they closed the West-Side Pool. Leaving the children only one place to swim. At that time I warned the public that the East-Pool would be next.
Well sure enough again with the need of repairs, and again the city having more important issues, the city closed the East-Side Pool. Now this left the City of Fulton children zero swimming places.
I’m sure someone will say “Wait a minute, they can swim at the YMCA or Granby School and then there was North Bay Campgrounds.” Well I don’t know any kid that wants to go inside to swim on a 80 or 90 degree day. Also the lake was closed for swimming. Also some will say many people have private pools and many people take their children away on vacations. I’m sorry but the city has an obligation to all the children of the city and there are many that aren’t as privileged as others and have no place to swim.
Now the city has made a decision to decommission the dam and Sharps Pond because there are repairs that need to be done. Again the city has other issues and can’t afford to repair the dam and save a historical location and a place for children to learn how to fish and families have a place to take their children without any costs.
Now one of the elected officials ran on as part of their campaign issues that the pond should be and would be saved. Well that promise went down the creek along with the dam.
People of Fulton, stand up for the children that need some good healthy outdoor activities.
Require the City to repair the Dam giving the children of Fulton memories like the ones that the Baby Boomers have of growing up in the City of Fulton.

Take some of the ten .million and make the pond and pool a number one attraction. We don’t need a stair case and more boat slips or new sidewalks and new trees . The city of Oswego would make it happen over night. It’s time the lame duck’s get it together and gives us our pond and pool back.
With no lake, no pond and no pools, the river is a dangerous and deadly lure for Fulton youth during a summer heatwave. Let’s pray that Fulton doesn’t experience any drownings before Fulton kids get a place to swim and cool off in the summer. In the 40s & 50s, Sharp’s Pond/Rowlee Beach was a great place to swim and it could be again without the expense that comes with a municipal pool. I believe it is spring fed from Voglesang’s Glen and with a little remediation it could return to it’s former Glory. Get your priorities in order Fulton!!
As a parent in Fulton I can say no under 50 cares about that nasty pond or community contagion centers like public pools. The kids are fine, seems like the only people complaining are creepy old men angry they can’t gawk.
Chris…lets take a poll…bet you loose by a land slide….lets see how many people know about the deal cannon pools was offering…bet not many …cannon pools wanted to put in a INGROUND pool over at that so called campground….northbay..your former mayor said H*** NO…it was all fre …the city had to maintain it thats it…i know the caretakers of that lake cess pool are Way to busy to care for the pool….b.s.they dont do nothing…make them clean that s*** hole up…dont worry bout the youth of today as you can clearly see nobody has in years thats why we have the issues we have….they are here for the pay check…trust me Fulton residents im gonna catch them in there own games….as many of you know…the mayor and the veterans affairs officer is doing WHAT??? Nothing people…i offer music classes to vets and first responders…those two dont wanna know nothing….its all free ….i have boughten guitars for people outta my own pocket..no biggie…they seem to be very busy that niether one of them can show up for a music lesson…maybe they need a lesson in life …as we all have to work and worry about our daily routines and next paycheck….not them they are on easy st….they cant call me or stop by the studio …NOTHING…OTHER THAN FROM MISS HANLIN DONT BASH ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA….why you so worried about that….cause your not doing your job….worry about the 20000 vets here in this county….we dont want a staircase or other s***…just take care of us ….as WE DID ALL OF YOU….the price of freedom is seen at your local v.a.clinic and hospitals…go check it out you two…oh s*** you cant your to busy…or perhaps you just dont care…
The kids that are too young to be on a phone or the kids that parents cannot afford to own a pool or video games for them to play with just might enjoy a pool or a little beach/pond to swim in.
I find it interesting that Frank is now picking up this issue. Several years ago when I ran I brought this issue up and despite the public support you poo pooed it Frank. You were more interested in throwing mud at me and telling terrible lies about me just to get reelected than trying to work with me and others in solving this real issue. You won the election, the people made their choice and got what they voted for. Throughout your time as legislator you never once picked up the banner to fight for this. When you had the power of elected office to help bring about this change you refused to act. Now 4 years later you finally realized what i was talking about. Better late than never I suppose but I do believe that ship has already sailed. You are no longer in a position of power to effect change just like I was at the time. It’s a shame you couldn’t have been a decent person and used your lesigislative power and joined the fight when it had support but like I said you were more concerned with holding on to power than using that power to advance the greater good of the community. Good luck fighting city hall now that you are no longer an elected official. You had your time to effect real change and you wasted it. As for me I like many others have left Fulton and NY for greener pastures where people actually care about their communities and where politicians use their power to help advance the community and make positive progress. Again, good luck because you are going to need it given this new mayor is very hard headed
As a grandmother to a 6 year old in Fulton, we need clean local pools for the kids. Children need a clean, safe, protected area to enjoy socialization and get physical activity. Right now the city of Fulton has other plans. These plans include bringing in large business and putting everything in the banks hands. That’s what happens when you elect a banker. People had the choice to vote for the people or for the bank. They chose the bank. Now the future of Fulton and its children are in the hands of a banker. The mayor only follows suit when Oswego’s mayor Billy Barlow does something new. This new city management has done nothing for the children. It has done nothing for the small business. It has done nothing but give itself not needed raises. I feel sorry for all of us who have to deal with the consequences of the voters choice.
Also let me add, we cant even get Foster’s Park cleaned by the city. Many of us residents are down there trying to keep it clean from needles and left over drug wrappers. If the mayor has enough money to give raises then she has enough money to patrol the parks for safety. Her position should be unpaid.
March Holli-Dash(AKA: Mark Aldash, Marc Holliday)-You didn’t have clue what a County Legislator’s duties entailed and you don’t have a clue what I did at least 7yrs before you about the Pools and the Pond. You only cared when you were running for office. You made a promise on your Pod cast interview that you would form a group to save the Pool and Pond even if you weren’t elected. Well no you took off. The city and 4th street are better off with you gone. You lost because people saw thur the fact that you were making promises that you couldn’t keep. You know like(I will bring more jobs, I will fix your roads, I will fix your sidewalks, I will save Michaud, I will clean up the rural cemeteries, I would have saved 7-11, and Bob’s Liquor, I will make Aldi’s use union labor to build their store) I only pointed out the facts, but to you that is mud slinging, and telling lies. Like the fact that your name use to be Mark Aldash the same one that tried to sue the School District.
What he said/she said, doesn’t matter….the fact is there is no place for kids to swim. Not all families have the option of taking their kids to Fairhaven or Green Lakes, those saying that obviously can.Do something for the kids now.Do something for those who travel through here.We need something that will want them to come back.We need something for the kids. You do the water at parks for the little people, what about the ones that are too big for that. There needs to be more…to get the community back, the families back.
Granby pool is a beautiful pool. However, the FCSD only offers an hour per day, or maybe 90 minutes evenings when school is in session, for community swim which would allow kids from the City of Fulton community time in the pool. Sad really given the school tax dollars the community pays.
Linda, that is very nice for the winter, but I really don’t any child that wants to spend a day inside swimming when it is 80 or 90 outside. Good idea for the winter time. And yes our school taxes are way too high.
