Sean Stevens: Third Parties “Your Welcome”

To the Editor,

I have lived in the Town of Minetto for 13 years and for the most part it has been the same stale elected officials, same taxes or even an increase yearly. Some people think you have to win an election in order to make a difference, I whole heartly disagree.

Two times I have ran for Minetto Town Supervisor and two times I have lost. But in those two election years surprisingly the same elected officials for numerous terms found first a 20% tax decrease and this year a whopping 40% tax decrease. I will add they used several of my ideas in order to achieve these savings.

So, having to actually earn peoples votes, listen to voter concerns makes these same stale elected officials actually do something besides cash their checks and they actually do things that yield results. With that being said, my goal as Oswego County Libertarian chair is to have every race in 2021 in Oswego County contested.

Enough of the days where current elected officials ride their parties coat tails, its time they earn every vote. Anyone that wants to run for office in the upcoming election, feel free to email me and I will help you every step of the way. Even if you don’t want to run as a Libertarian, I will still help you. Remember you’re not voting for a political party; you should be voting for the candidate that has your best interest at hand.

Lastly Governor Cuomo made some illegal changes to ballot access with his emergency powers from Co-Vid pandemic. He changed all of the vote total requirements in order to keep ballot accesses, surprisingly the Oswego Board of Elections is wasting your money sending out letters to all third-party voters that they must change their party.

There are several lawsuits in the works to overturn Cuomo’s abuse of power and I was hoping the BOE would use some common sense before sending out letters and ordering all new voter registration forms. I had no idea that third parties were such a threat that we must jump through ridiculous hoops in order to have an equal playing field with Republicans and Democrats.

In this last election, I had 10 signs stolen, numerous signs ran over, and several signs thrown in the woods. I even had the Sheriff’s office ignore a request to follow through with getting my signs back from someone who stole 2 of them and left a signed note that they stole my signs.

I was endorsed by a presidential candidate and even worked on her campaign as regional state director and the other newspaper felt it fair for two straight elections to run pro stories for my opponent’s days before each election and ignore my accomplishments. If anyone thinks third parties are a joke, ask your Republican and Democratic friends why they fight so hard to destroy us.
