OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Health welcomes experienced Orthopedic Surgeon John Ayres, MD, to its Advanced Orthopedic Group.
Dr. Ayres earned his doctor of medicine degree from New York Medical College in New York City.
He completed his surgical internship at Dartmouth’s Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, NH, and his orthopedic surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
He arrives in Oswego from the Bassett Medical Network in Cooperstown.
Dr. Ayres is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a National Medical School Honor Society and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
“The opportunity to practice in Oswego offers so much,” Dr. Ayres said. “I like the idea of having an office next to the hospital and being able to live close by and near my patients, thereby being easily available. There is also a lot of opportunity within the community, with the lake and its rich history.”
Dr. Ayres, whose father was a physician, said he wanted to become a doctor himself ever since he was in the sixth grade.
“It’s the only thing I ever wanted to do,” he said. “I found anatomy very enjoyable as a kid.”
Now, as a practicing orthopedic surgeon, he has found his chosen specialty is actually a field where he is able to not only improve the health of a patient, but also develop a very personal relationship.
Along with providing care in the technologically-advanced surgery center at Oswego Hospital, Dr. Ayres will have offices in the adjacent Health Services Center’s suite 280, which is being renovated to offer more patient exam rooms, as well as a large comfortable waiting area.
