The Oswego AmeriCorps staff will hold an informational meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 25 for organizations who are interested in hosting a summer AmeriCorps member. The meeting will take place in the Youth Bureau conference room, Oswego County Office Complex, 70 Bunner Street, Oswego.
“Oswego County organizations that are committed to serving our youth and families have the opportunity to host an AmeriCorps member this summer,†said Kathleen Andolina, Oswego AmeriCorps program coordinator. “AmeriCorps is a national service program that allows people to serve their community while learning valuable skills, gaining experience and earning money for college.â€Â
The Oswego AmeriCorps program is administered by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and has served Oswego County for 13 years.
“AmeriCorps sites can be public agencies, schools, nonprofits, or community -based organizations. Oswego AmeriCorps members provide mentoring and out-of-school activities for youth. Members cannot displace staff or positions,†said Andolina. Previous summer sites include the Safe Haven Museum, Sandy Creek Recreation, Constantia Recreation, Oswego YMCA, and Mexico Skate Park.
Members would serve each organization for 300 hours in the summer and receive a modest living allowance as well as an educational award. Sites pay a share of the member’s cost and provide supervision and training.
