Oswego, NY – The Oswego Clearview Squirt hockey team defeated Elmira 7-1 and Watertown 6-3 this past weekend, to extend their winning streak to six games, according to Oswego Head Coach Eric Koproski.
Oswego improved to 9-4 overall on the season, and 7-3 in the Snowbelt League.
“Our team has played great hockey over the course of the last month, and it has been a culmination of hard work and a never quit attitude on the part of each our players,” said Koproski.
The Clearview Squirts played Elmira on the road at the First Arena on Saturday, and after a scoreless first period in the Snowbelt League matchup, Oswego tallied three goals in the second to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Oswego’s Andrew Noyes scored the first two goals off of assists from Nick Burnett and Jack Stephens. Clearview Defenseman Isaiah Raby then added another unassisted goal.
After Elmira got on the board at 10:55 of the third period, Oswego’s Nick Burnett picked up a hat trick off assists from Jeremy Susino, Alex Koproski, and Stephens. Susino also added to the scoring in the third, picking up his sixth goal of the season off an assist from Lane Phillips and Spencer Stepien.
“The kids really stepped it up in the final two periods and took advantage of some openings in the Elmira defense,” Koproski said.
Tyler Wallace played a strong game in net, stopping 12 Elmira shots, and earning his eighth win of the year.
The following day on their home ice at Crisafulli Rink, the Oswego Clearview squad battled the Watertown Rapids in a non-league contest. Oswego jumped out early at the 11:07 mark with an unassisted goal by Noyes. Watertown would then add a score at 6:09 to tie the game 1-1 after the first period. Oswego scored two more in the second off of goals by Stephens and Patrick Galvin. Koproski and Noyes added assists.
After a second period goal by Watertown, the Clearview team added three more tallies in the final period, off of goals by Nick Burnett (2) and Tyler Wallace. Watertown would add one more in the third to cap off their scoring.
Oswego’s Susino got his first start in net, stopping 14 shots to secure the victory.
According to Koproski, the defense of Bryson Bush, Phillips, Burnett, and Raby, along with the strong play of Mason Bricker helped them capture the weekend wins.
