Oswego County Humane Society, local businesses team up to celebrate National Pet Month

For the month of May, the Oswego County Humane Society and local businesses, Al’s Hometown Market in Pulaski, the Hannibal IGA, Paul’s Big M in Oswego, Pawpower Pet Supply in Mexico, Bosco & Geer’s in Oswego, and C & B Farm and Garden in Oswego, will celebrate National Pet Month.

With the use of a simple scanning card at the check-out, shoppers in each store will have an opportunity to donate to the Humane Society’s efforts to care for animals and help people and pets come together and stay together.

National Pet Month originated in the UK, but has spread across the United States and is celebrated by many animal welfare organizations and pet related businesses and professionals.

Its goals are to promote the benefits of pet ownership, support pet adoption, make people aware of the benefits of pets for people and people for pets, increase public awareness of services available from professionals who work with animals, and raise awareness of the role, value and contribution to society of working companion animals.

Donna Kuhn, president of the Oswego County Humane Society and organizer of the event here said, “We always say that people and pets are good for each other, so it seemed like an ideal time to get that message across with the help of the local merchants who are supportive of our programs in so many ways.”
