OSWEGO – The Oswego Fire Department is happy to announce the following EMS course offerings for the fall of 2016:
Emergency Medical Technician
The EMT is the backbone, and in many cases the primary provider, of many EMS systems. The EMT is also widely used across the country in industrial settings and in athletic training or coaching. This level of certification is required before entering into any advanced EMS program and is the minimum level of care for all ambulance services.
We are planning two EMT courses for this fall. The first will be conducted on Tuesday through Thursday afternoons, partially at SUNY Oswego and partially at the East Side Fire Station. Classes will be on the SUNY Oswego campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:55 – 7 p.m. and at the East Side Fire Station on Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m. This program begins on August 30 and tests on December 15.
The second EMT program will be conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-10 p.m. exclusively at the East Side Fire Station. This program also begins on August 30 but tests on January 19, 2017.
The tuition for the EMT program is $775. Students who are active members of an agency that provides EMS to the public are eligible to have their tuition paid by the New York State Department of Health upon successful completion of the program.
Minimum class size is 14 students.
In addition to the Original EMT course, we also offer a refresher program for those already certified providers looking to maintain their certification or for past providers who would like to get it back.
Tuition for the refresher is $425 and just like the original, students who are active members of an agency that provides EMS to the public are eligible to have their tuition paid by the New York State Department of Health upon successful completion of the program.
Each original EMT class will be conducted in conjunction with a refresher program.
EMT-CC and Paramedic Refresher – November 2 – January 19, 2017
These challenge refreshers will be conducted simultaneously on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 – 10 p.m. at the East Side Fire Station and are designed for both currently certified advanced providers to maintain their certifications and for those who have expired to recertify.
The tuition for the EMT-CC Refresher is $800 and for the Paramedic is $880.
As with the EMT programs, any provider that is a member of an agency that provides advanced care to the public, may have their tuition paid by the Department of Health upon successful completion of the program.
As always, the Oswego Fire Department will continue to offer certification in CPR and First Aid to any member of the public wishing to obtain it.
