The Oswego State Mens Club Hockey team faced rival Cornell in action last weekend in a home and home match up.
The Lakers traveled to Cornell on Saturday and came away with a 6-4 loss. Oswego scored the first three goals but Cornell came back scoring the next four. The Lakers tied it up but with just 58 seconds left, Cornell scored the winning goal and then sealed the win with an empty net goal.
Highlights for the Lakers however was the hat trick – 3 goals- scored by sophomore DJ Mazzoni and Rudy Renick’s goal. Assists were credit to Matt BradyChris Flynn and Justin Smith . Senior goaltender Mike Reid stopped 36 shots.
The following night, Oswego played host to the Big Red. The game went scoreless in the first period. Continuing his impressive goal scoring, DJ Mazzoni found the back of the net in the second period and Chris Timmons scored shortly after. Cornell brought it to within one just before the end of the period. It was tied at 10:01 in the third which is the way regulation ended. The game then went into overtime with no one from either team being able to score.
ACHA regulations required a shoot out to take place which Cornell won, 2-1. Chris Timmons scored for the Lakers.
Sophomore goaltende Aaron Frohm was once again spectacular in net with 46 saves.
Oswego will be at home this weekend as they host MVCC on Saturday at 9 :00 in a non-league game. The Lakers will welcome the Ithaca Bombers to the Campus Center on Sunday at 2:00 for an NECHL game. Returning to the lineup this weekend will be Senior Captain Adam Webster, who has missed the past four games due to injury and freshman Dillon Tamer who was scratched from the lineup last weekend due to illness.
