Oswego State field hockey team ends season with third straight win

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team (6-10) completed its season on Saturday, collecting its third straight win by trumping the St. John Fisher Cardinals (6-11), 2-1.

Senior forward Alyssa Hare (Middleport, N.Y.) hammered in a shot off a cross from Ashley Fiorelle (Jr., Pittsford, N.Y.) just 1:12 into the game to get the scoring started. Oswego State outshot St. John Fisher 9-7 in the stanza.

However, just over five minutes later, St. John Fisher’s Stacie Skidmore knotted up the score with a breakaway goal on a breakout pass from Marissa Vedella.

Fifteen minutes into the game, junior defender Ashley Collins (Whitney Point, N.Y.) one-timed a Hare penalty corner into the net to put the Lakers back in the lead for good. It was Collins’ third goal of the season, and first game-winner.

Oswego State’s defense buckled down in the second period, not allowing a shot by the Cardinals. Although the Lakers weren’t able to score on any of their seven shots, they held on to the lead to seal the victory.

Laker goalie Grace Lombardi (Fr., Ossining, N.Y.) registered one save in the win. St. John Fisher’s Danielle Famolaro made eight stops for the Cardinals in the loss.
