ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Oswego State field hockey team (0-2) was unable to overcome a three-goal halftime deficit en route to a 6-0 loss to the University of Rochester (2-0) Sunday night.
The Yellowjackets got on the board at the 10:17 mark when Belle Hoagland tipped in a pass from Lindsay Randall at the right wing. In the 13th minute, Randall added a goal of her own when she tapped in a loose ball from eight yards out. The final marker of the first half was posted by Katie Flaschner when she lobbed in a shot on a penalty corner with 16 minutes remaining.
Rochester continued to play well in the second half, as Shelby Hall found the back of the cage in the 50th minute. Flaschner later registered her second goal of the game in the 56th minute to put the Yellowjackets in front, 5-0. Megan Keil tacked on another score on a rebound in the 62nd minute for the final goal of the game.
Rochester owned a 19-1 advantage in shots on goal, as Laker goalie Nicole Moccaldi (Fr., East Islip, N.Y.) recorded ten saves and allowed five goals in 60 minutes and Grace Lombardi (Fr., Ossining, N.Y.) stopped two shots and gave up one goal in the final ten minutes.
Tara Lamberti and Madison Wagner combined to earn the shutout for the home team.
Oswego State will travel to Ithaca on Wednesday to face the Bombers at 4 p.m.
