Oswego State Mens Club Hockey Team Scores Two Wins

Despite a five week break, the Oswego State Mens Club Hockey Team started off 2010 on a winning note by defeating both RIT and Syracuse in non-league games.

The Lakers traveled to RIT on Friday night and, with Oswego leading from the beginning, defeated the Tigers 6-1. Oswego goals were scored by team captain Matt Saramak, Mike Steinke, Chase Collins (2),James Hollowell , and Nick Atkins. Assists were credited to Adam Webster, Brandon Clark, Rob Lippolis, Mike Renick, Tony Verdon, Greg King (Oswego) , Tim Rinck (2) and Justin Smith. Freshman goaltender Matt McClellan was phenomenal in the net, stopping 28 of 29 shots.

The following evening, Oswego traveled to the Tennity Ice Pavilion on the Syracuse University campus to face Syracuse University and defeated the Orangemen 6-3… Oswego’ junior Tim Rinck started off the scoring 5 minutes into the first period but Syracuse followed with 2 goals to lead 2-1. Oswego senior James Mitchell tied the game with 24 seconds left in the 2nd period .. The Lakers exploded for 4 goals in the third period to defeat Syracuse for the second time this season. Oswego goals were scored by Tim Rinck (3), James Mitchell, Chase Collins and the team’s leading scorer freshman Chris Covel. Assisting on the goals were Collins, Steinke, Rinck, Renick and Atkins. Sophomore Oswego goaltender Mike Reid had an outstanding performance with a 36 save performance.

Oswego State unveiled their custom made third jersey during this weekend. The jersey was designed by team alumnus Josh Gagnon, Oswego Class of 2009.

The Lakers return home this Saturday , January 30 to host Cortland in an NECHL game. The puck drops at 1:30 and admission is free to all home games.
