Oswego State Men’s Club Hockey Team Splits Weekend Games

The Oswego State Men’s Club Hockey team went 1-1 this past weekend.

The Lakers welcomed the St. Bonaventure Bonnies to the Campus Center on Saturday for the first meeting this year between the two teams. The visitors got on the scoreboard first but Oswego’s Justin Smith soon answered by scoring on a pass from Chris Timmons and Oswego’s leading scorer D.J. Mazzoni. The game then got away from the Lakers as the Bonnies scored 6 straight goals before the line of Smith and Mazzoni scored again. Oswego’s senior goaltender Mike Reid had 20 saves before sophomore Sal Annunziata replaced him. Annunziata had 12 saves in the third period.

The following day, the Ithaca Bombers traveled to Oswego for an afternoon game. Disappointed with their loss from the night before, the Lakers came out flying and defeated the visitors 10-4. Oswego goals were scored by Chris Timmons, Chris Covel (2), Mike Renick, Dillon Tamer (who also had 4 assists), Chris Cavanaugh, Ryan Grant, Adam Webster, Justin Smith and Nick Phelps.

Sophomore goaltender Aaron Frohm was very steady in the goal as he faced 47 shots.

Fans at the game were treated to a performance by the Oswego State Ice Effects Synchronized skating team between the first and second periods and by Team Mini, which threw t-shirts to the fans between the second and third periods.

The Lakers will be playing their last two games of the semester this weekend. On Friday night they will host league rivals Cortland at 7:00. The team will also be raffling off an authentic Ryan Miller USA jersey which was generously donated to the team by Mike Paestella. Tickets are $5 each.

On Saturday, Oswego travels to the Tennity Ice Arena on the Syracuse University campus to face the Syracuse Orangemen for their first meeting this season.

The team will then break for exams and the winter vacation before they return to campus a week early to prepare for the second half of their season.
