Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s basketball team made a second half comeback against Rochester Institute of Technology, beating the Tigers 87-74 to win the Max Ziel Tournament on Saturday.
RIT scored their first five points of the game unanswered by the Lakers. Oswego fought back but the Tigers held their lead for the entire first half. Their biggest lead of the game was 28-16 with 5:30 left. Oswego cut their lead to 3 at 35-32 heading into the half.
The Lakers were 13-35 from the field in the first half, going 4-8 from the three-point line. The team was 2-9 in free throws.
Five Lakers combined to score the 32 points.
Oswego came out strong in the second half, tying the game at 38 with 17:28 left. The momentum shifted and Oswego took the lead 41-38 at 16:58 and did not look back. The team’s smallest lead of the half was two and they broke the game open with 3:31 left in the game.
The Lakers scored 21 points in the last three and a half minutes of the game, making the final 87-74.
Jenn Robbins led Oswego with 30 points in the game. Robbins had four steals as well as four assists and three rebounds. Heather Hebert led the team in rebounds with 14 while Alison Nunziato led the team with three blocks.
Oswego will return to action at 6 p.m. on Wednesday when they take on Hamilton College.
