OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego YMCA will be host the 27th Annual Reindeer Run, a 5k Fun Run and Walk on December 3, at 10 a.m.
This event is a fun and healthy way for friends and family to kick off the Oswego community holiday season.
As a non-competitive fun run, participants are asked to exhibit holiday cheer by dressing festively.
People can run individually or as a team and are encouraged to dress in any variety of holiday themed items including reindeer, santas, elves, candy canes, Christmas trees or gifts.
Last year, the event brought more than 150 family members and friends together on a wintry Saturday morning to downtown Oswego.
Proceeds from this event go to support Oswego YMCA healthy living programs.
New this year, the YMCA is partnering with Zink Screen Printing and Design to bring the second annual Oswego Cares event to the Oswego YMCA.
The event will begin immediately following the Reindeer Run at 11 a.m.
Admittance to the event will be an article of new or gently used clothing or $5 per person.
This is an opportunity for the community to provide coats and other cold weather items to those in need in the community.
There will be music, games and food until 3 p.m. in the Oswego YMCA.
“The reindeer run is always a fun event that we look forward to bringing to the community each year, “ said Trish Levine, Director of Health & Wellness at the Oswego YMCA. “We are very excited to partner with the Oswego Cares event this year.”
She added that the purpose of the event fully supports the YMCA’s focus on social responsibility.
There is an entry fee for the Reindeer Run/walk and registration is available at the Oswego YMCA, 265 W. First St., or at lightboxreg.com.
Fees increase for same day registration on December 5.
The Oswego YMCA will accept in-person registration until 9:30 a.m. on race day.
T-shirts are only guaranteed if registered by November 25 at noon.
Santa will be present at the run congratulate finishers and share some holiday cheer and snacks and refreshments, including the Taste of the World’s famous coffee and hot chocolate bar, will take place in the Oswego YMCA following the run.
