OSWEGO – On Wednesday, Oswego Health hosted a touching Donate Life Flag Raising Ceremony in honor of six extraordinary local individuals—Deputy Cailee Campbell, Fred Greco, Jody LeBlanc, Michael Nettles, Betty Rowlee, and Burt Trumble—who gave the ultimate gift through organ, eye, and tissue donation. The event, which drew nearly 70 attendees, was part of National Donate Life Month and aimed to honor these heroes and raise awareness about the ongoing need for donors.
We were honored to be joined by Matt Graney of the Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network and our very own Nursing Supervisor, Amber Shumway, RN, BSN, whose leadership in planning the ceremony helped bring the community together in remembrance and hope.
Some key facts and quotes from the event:
- More than 100,000 people nationwide are currently waiting for a transplant—including 800 in our region.
- This year’s honored donors restored or preserved sight in 8 individuals; their tissue donations helped save or heal 450 lives.
As the Donate Life flag continues to fly high outside Oswego Hospital, we hope this message of compassion and legacy reaches even more people
