PENNELLVILLE, NY – A call for help to get out of a swamp has landed a Pennellville man in hot water.
State police in Fulton arrested Harry E. Truax, 53, of 39 Hoyt Rd., Pennellville, Wednesday, charging him with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class-D felony.
The investigation evolved following a 911 call that Truax placed Oct. 3.
Truax told police that he was lost in the swamp behind his residence. An exhaustive search of the area was conducted by State Police Patrols, the Fire Departments from Pennellville, Caughdenoy, West Monroe, and included air support from Onondaga County Air 1, and Lifenet from PA.
Following Truax’s safe return home, state police members recovered a number of marihuana plants from Truax’s detached garage. Police said the plants had an aggregate weight of more than 16 ounces.
Truax was arraigned in Schroeppel Town Court by Judge Richard Burton, where he posted cash bail in the amount of $500. Truax to re-appear Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
