This Week With Claudia

WASHINGTON, DC – Following is a weekly newsletter from U. S. Congresswoman Claudia Tenney:

Celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day
This week, to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, we reintroduced the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This legislation is anti-woke and pro-science. It ensures equal opportunity for women and girls to compete fairly and succeed in athletics, just as I did when I was growing up.
President Joe Biden’s Department of Education and state agencies across the nation are allowing – even encouraging – biological men to participate in women’s sports. This is fundamentally unfair. It deprives women and girls of what so many of us fought for decades to achieve: equal opportunity to train, compete, and excel in athletics. The Republican majority has pledged to protect women’s sports, and today we’re delivering on that promise.
Rep Tenney Speaks on House Floor on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act
Yesterday in response to China’s latest aggression, I introduced three bills to hold the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) accountable. America’s sovereignty is under attack at the border and now in the sky. Joe Biden should have taken clear action to bring down the Chinese spy drone before it was over American airspace. Our adversaries are stronger because of Joe Biden’s weak and failed leadership. It won’t stop until we stand up to defend our nation and its values.
We must never forget President Reagan’s powerful principle of peace through strength! The House Republican majority is taking China’s threat seriously. The bills I introduced this week are critical steps in combatting the malign influence of the CCP in our economy and their exploitation of U.S. public and private investment funds. This week, I voted in favor of H.R. 497, the Freedom for Health Care Workers Act, a bill I cosponsored to end the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services vaccine mandate for healthcare workers. I also voted for H.R. 382, the Pandemic is Over Act, which officially ends the COVID-19 public health emergency declared by the Department of Health and Human Services in 2020.
The president has said it himself: the pandemic is over.
As New York families and small businesses have returned to normal, it is finally time for the government to do the same by ending the permanent state of emergency and lifting its overreaching and unconstitutional mandates. I was honored to support these critical pieces of legislation, which make good on the Republican commitment to restore our fundamental freedoms and ensure the government is accountable to the people.
This week I joined with Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10), Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-8), and Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4) to reintroduce the Susan Muffley Act to restore the pensions of the Delphi Salaried Retirees.
This bill restores the full pension benefits of the Delphi Salaried Retirees, righting a terrible wrong that has had a devastating impact on New York families.
I was honored to have joined with Representatives Kildee and Turner to demand the Susan Muffley Act be included last year in any year-end legislative package and we will continue our fight together this year as we reintroduce this legislation in the 118th Congress. As a compassionate and tenacious voice for our region, I am committed to reversing the Obama administration’s unjust termination decision, which directly harmed nearly 2,300 Western and Central New Yorkers.
TUNE IN ALERT: Join me on Sunday Morning Futures
Please join me this weekend on Sunday Morning Futures in the 10 am hour! I’ll be discussing Kathy Hochul’s out-of-control budget and the migrant crisis.
Transparency and a well-informed public are vital components of our self-governing Constitutional Republic! I’m committed to restoring transparency to government, which is why I explain every vote I take on the House floor.
While we may not always agree, you will always know where I stand on the issues and exactly how I vote in Congress.
Some of the key bills we considered this week are explained below. To read more about these votes and see the full list with explanations of all the legislation considered this week by the House of Representatives, please click here.
  • I voted “Yes” on H. Res. 76, Removing a certain Member from a certain standing committee of the House. Since being elected to Congress in 2018, Representative Ilhan Omar (MN) has used her position as a member of Congress to peddle dangerous anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, including the despicable notion that members of Congress only support Israel for money. She has also minimized the horror of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and compared the U.S. and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban. I was disappointed that not a single Democrat voted for this resolution despite Representative Omar’s complete lack of genuine remorse for her prior statements. The rhetoric espoused by Representative Omar calls into question her ability to be trusted to effectively address issues vital to America’s national security as a member of the important House Foreign Affairs Committee. As a previous member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I understand the important role this committee plays in advancing America’s national security priorities. Someone who compares the U.S. to Hamas and espouses openly anti-Semitic rhetoric should not serve on this committee, which represents our nation and the people’s House to the world. This resolution passed by a vote of 218-211, with 1 member voting present.
  • I voted “Yes” on H. Con. Res. 9, Denouncing the horrors of socialism. Over the last few years, we have seen a concerning rise in support for socialism and dangerous socialist ideologies. According to Pew Research Center, 36% of Americans have a favorable of view of socialism. More concerningly, this number rises among the youth to almost 45%. However, the history is clear: time and again socialist dictators such as Mao Zedong, Joseph Stalin, and Kim Jong Un end up killing tens of millions of their own people – through starvation and mass murder. Socialism is a failed ideology that is antithetical to our American values of individual liberty and freedom. I was honored to be an original cosponsor of the resolution, and I was disappointed to see 86 of my colleagues vote against this simple resolution denouncing the horrors that socialism has brought to this world. This resolution passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 328-86, with 14 members voting present.
